Athletes arrive in Copper Village by car or meet us at Denver Int'l Airport in the baggage claim area (there are many so we will advise which one on travel form). For flights there is a 3 hour arrival and departure window where staff are available and individuals & groups arrive/depart.
We have a luxury coach booked which takes the group to Copper Village. If you are flying out with your child and do not wish to rent a vehicle you may join us on the coach (pre-booking required incase space is limited)
Outside of this 'window' athletes who are old enough to travel alone may sit and wait unaccompanied for their flight. Departure is usually very early on the last day of camp (November 29) so those being collected by car usually leave the night before. The 'window' coincides with chaperoned group flight arrival & departure so may change from year to year. More information can be found on your travel form which is sent out in October.
There is no chaperone option for Copper as we all arrive & leave together, although it is possible to depart on our chaperoned flight and change when we have a connection (to fly to somewhere other than Boston). Please contact the office for more information.
A from/to Boston Logan is booked by our travel agent through us, although if you would like to use your own airmiles you can book seats yourself once the itinerary is confirmed. Booking the flights is a bit of a process; travel agent finds ten seats on the same flight to qualify for group rate (which means we can hold the seats with just a deposit until 30 days prior to departure). If we don't have ten people (including staff) we can't hold the seats but will make non-group reservations with payment due in full prior to booking. If anyone wants to add a child on after the reservation has been made they can contact the travel agent directly and she usually manages to squeeze extras on but, obviously, this is not recommended and the price may go up!
If your child is registered for camp we'll let you know in October to send a deposit in and return a slip verifying that you do want us to book your flight. Our travel agent books the flight and then you will receive an e-confirmation and are assigned a staff person to be your main contact. There is usually one staff person per four children and they are with the kids the whole time so this is better (and more fun) than paying for Unaccompanied Minor superivsion. There is a $40 admin fee included in the cost of the ticket.
U.S. Elite Camp books lodging in the center village (close to lifts, restaurants, etc.) and has advised parents to telephone Copper Village reservations in the past.
Below are recommendations from parents who have stayed in Copper. These suggestions are based on individual's experiences and are not the opinion of U.S. Elite Camps, Inc.:
" We stayed at Copper Springs last year and we are trying the Cirque this year. Both have outdoor hot tub and the Cirque has a heated pool. Copper Springs was very nice last year."
"For the past two seasons we have used the web site www.vrbo.com You rent directly from owners. This year we found an end unit 2 Bdr at Tucker Mountian Lodge which is right behind CopperOne and next to the Mill House $950.00 for the week. Other families are also staying in the Tucker building and got similiar rates. The only small disadvantage going through VRBO is there is no access for the B-Pass. Not a big deal except on Thanksgiving day."
"Last Year we stayed in the 54 Peaks Area at the Tucker Mountain Lodge and it was really nice. There was a hot tub outside and some people used the grill. We had a one bedroom condominium that had two bathrooms and was quite spacious. There was underground parking as well. You had easy access to the whole village and yet we were close to the lifts as well.
This year, we are staying at Ten Mile Haus which is supposed to be even nicer."
"We have stayed at Copper One twice and our Friends stayed at Tucker Mtn.
